Funded by the U.S Department of Energy as part of the Renew America’s Nonprofits Program, the $3.9M Alaska Heat Smart (AHS) NORTHH program will allow AHS and partners, the National Laboratory of the Rockies-Alaska (NLR) and Information Insights (ii), to assist with improving energy efficiency and reducing annual operating costs of 20 to 30 nonprofit-owned buildings in Alaska serving lower to middle income and disadvantaged populations in the health and housing sectors.

Alaska Heat Smart has partnered with the True North Federal Credit Union throughout the ACES program region and Tongass Federal Credit Union in Sitka to provide low-interest loans for heat pump installations. This unique program offers a way for homeowners to manage the upfront costs of heat pump installation so that they can begin saving right away!

The Alaska Heat Smart Heathy Homes Program is facilitating the remediation of up to 90 lower income Juneau family homes through October 2026, or when funding runs out. If you and your family qualify for our Healthy Homes program, you may be able to save money, keep your home warmer and drier, and eliminate a variety of household hazards that may be effecting both your family’s health and your wallet’s. Healthy Homes can provide heat pump installations and other heating system upgrades, plumbing assistance, water heater replacement, insulation, and other home repairs.

The Alaska Carbon Reduction Fund (ACRF) facilitates no cost heat pump installations for low income families in coastal communities from Metlakatla to Kodiak. Households have to meet specific income and heating system requirements to be eligible. Available funding will meet the needs of installations on a first-come, first-serve basis. As part of the application process, Alaska Heat Smart will help applicants determine whether a heat pump system would be cost effective and a wise addition for their home through a home energy assessment.

Our residential Home Energy Assessment Program will help you make confident, informed, and educated decisions about home electrification, heat pumps, and energy efficiency options. AHS currently offers a mix of in-person and virtual assessments through the Accelerating Clean Energy Savings (ACES) program region.
